Aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery was born in Lyons, France in 1900. He began writing The Little Prince after Germany’s invasion of France forced him to flee to New York and give up aviation. The novel is nostalgic towards childhood indicating Saint Exupery’s desire to return home and to return to a time of peace. Although The Little Prince initially seems like only a children’s book it makes many profound observations about human nature. The Little Prince glorifies childlike innocence and criticizes the decay of spiritual values: The Little Prince was influenced by Word War II; however, Saint-Exupery aims to analyze human nature. The Little Price is a universal and timeless allegory about the importance of love as well as innocence.
